Borgo Vescine, Radda in Chianti

Vescine is a hamlet of stone houses on a ridge above Radda in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone.

It has been there since the middle ages and it is still laid out as a village: a piazza at the centre, paths between the buildings, a tower, and the vineyards and woods dropping away on every side. The relais occupies the whole of it, with 28 rooms in the houses, and a wedding takes the lot.

Radda is eight minutes down the hill, which is close enough for guests to walk into a real Tuscan town and far enough that nobody can hear the band.

Borgo Vescine Wedding Venue

The hamlet is small and the wedding uses all of it, moving outward through the evening.

The Uliveta and the gazebo

The olive grove below the hamlet, with a gazebo among the centuries-old trees. This is the ceremony, and the relais includes the gazebo at no extra cost.

The piazza

The square at the centre of the village, which becomes the dinner under the stars once the sun has gone off the stone.

The panoramic terrace

Above the pool, looking out across the Chianti. The aperitivo happens here.

The Orangerie

Where the night ends, with DJ sets, an open bar and dancing, and nothing telling anyone when to stop.

Borgo Vescine Wedding Cost

A Borgo Vescine wedding starts from €250,000, and for optimal results we recommend budgeting €350,000 all-in for 80 to 100 guests.

Taking the hamlet

€30,000 a day on a weekday and €35,000 at a weekend for 2027, with a minimum stay of three nights. August carries some flexibility on that minimum.

So the hire is €90,000 midweek or €105,000 across a weekend, and the season does not change it. Only the day of the week does.

What the fee includes

Every room in the hamlet and breakfast for all the guests. Full access to all the indoor and outdoor spaces. And the standard equipment for up to 80 people: the gazebo as it stands, dinnerware, tableware, glassware, tables, linens and chairs.

That equipment line is worth reading carefully, and it is the subject of the next section.

Food and drink

The wedding menu starts at €165 a head, with beverages quoted separately. The kitchen works from the estate’s own garden and the local producers around it.

What sits outside it

Menus beyond the starting point, floral arrangements, music, and any equipment for guests beyond the first 80. The relais keeps a list of preferred partners and will consider outside suppliers with management approval, which is a more open position than most Chianti hamlets take.

The Eightieth Guest

The hire fee carries the furniture for 80 people.

The hamlet seats 80 to 100.

That gap is where budgets go wrong here. A couple reading the seated capacity as 100 plans for 100, and discovers that twenty of those guests arrive without a chair, a table, a plate or a glass included. Hiring for twenty people is not expensive in itself, but it is a hire order, a delivery, a collection and a set of decisions nobody expected to make.

We always hold the list at 80 where the guest list allows it. It is the number the hamlet is equipped for, it is comfortable in the piazza, and everything above it is bought separately.

No Curfew, in the Chianti

The relais says it in one line: there is no curfew for music.

In the Chianti that is genuinely rare. Most of the comuni around here impose an outdoor limit at ten or midnight, and the estates that get past one in the morning do it by moving everybody indoors. Vescine does not have to.

The reason is geography. The hamlet sits alone on its ridge with woods and vineyards between it and anyone else, and the whole of it is let to one wedding, so there is nobody within earshot who did not come for the party.

We still write the finishing hour into the contract, because a thing that is true in practice should also be true on paper. What changes is that here the conversation is about what the couple wants rather than what the comune will allow.

Accommodation at Borgo Vescine

Twenty-eight rooms sleeping 65, all inside the hire.

They are in the old stone houses of the hamlet, which means short staircases, beams, thick walls and no corridors. Breakfast is for everybody, every day, and it is included.

Sixty-five beds against a hundred guests leaves about 35 people in Radda or the surrounding Chianti, eight minutes away. With no curfew and no last shuttle imposed by the venue, that drive is the only thing setting a limit on the night, so we run cars late rather than early.

Borgo Vescine Location, Tuscany

The hamlet is at Vescine near Radda in Chianti, in the province of Siena, inside the Chianti Classico zone.

Radda is eight minutes, Siena 43 and Florence city centre 58.

Getting guests there

Florence Peretola is an hour and nine minutes by road on our routing, against the 40 minutes the relais quotes in its own material. Pisa is an hour and 58 and Rome Fiumicino three hours and 34.

We give guests the longer figure. A transfer booked on a 40-minute assumption and taking an hour and nine is how people miss a ceremony.

Magic Day Insights

Eighty is the number, and almost nothing else here is a constraint.

Hold the guest list at 80.

The hire includes tables, chairs, linen, glass and china for exactly 80 people, and the hamlet seats up to 100. Every guest past 80 brings a hire order with them. We would rather plan a wedding of 80 that is fully equipped than one of 95 that is partly rented, and the piazza looks better with 80 in it anyway.

Marry midweek.

€30,000 against €35,000 a day, across a three-night minimum, is €15,000 saved for moving off the weekend. The season makes no difference to the price at all, so the day of the week is the only lever there is.

Use the absence of a curfew as a design decision.

There is no hour here, which almost nowhere in the Chianti can say. We build the running order to peak late rather than racing a deadline, and we keep the Orangerie for the part of the night that would be cut short somewhere else.

Tell guests the real drive time.

The relais says 40 minutes from Florence airport and we route it at an hour and nine. We put the routed figure on the travel page, because a guest who believes the shorter one leaves too late.

Common Questions

How much does a Borgo Vescine wedding cost?

A Borgo Vescine wedding starts from €250,000, and for optimal results we recommend budgeting €350,000 all-in. Taking the hamlet is €30,000 a day midweek and €35,000 at a weekend with a three-night minimum, so the hire runs from €90,000 to €105,000 and carries the rooms, breakfast and the furniture for 80 people inside it. The wedding menu starts at €165 a head and drinks are quoted separately.

How many guests can attend a Borgo Vescine wedding?

Between 80 and 100 seated depending on how the tables are laid, or 120 standing. Eighty is the number that matters, because the hire fee includes tables, chairs, linen, glass and china for exactly that many, and every guest above it brings hired furniture with them.

Can we marry legally at Borgo Vescine?

The legal marriage is arranged at the comune in Radda in Chianti, eight minutes away, and the ceremony here is symbolic. It is held under the gazebo in the Uliveta, the olive grove below the hamlet, and the relais offers the gazebo at no additional cost.

What is the music curfew at Borgo Vescine?

There is none. The relais states plainly that there is no curfew for music, which in the Chianti is unusual because the comuni normally impose one, and it is the single strongest argument for this hamlet over its neighbours. The party moves to the Orangerie for DJ sets, an open bar and dancing, and it finishes when the couple decides.

How many people can sleep at Borgo Vescine?

Sixty-five. The hamlet sleeps them across 28 bedrooms in its stone houses, all included in the hire along with breakfast. A wedding of a hundred therefore has about 35 guests sleeping elsewhere, and Radda in Chianti is eight minutes down the hill with rooms worth putting them in.

Which airport do guests fly into for Borgo Vescine?

Florence Peretola, an hour and nine minutes by road. The relais quotes 40 minutes in its own material and we route it at an hour and nine, so guests should be told the longer figure. Florence city centre is 58 minutes, Siena 43, Pisa an hour and 58 and Rome Fiumicino three hours and 34.

When is the best time of year for a Borgo Vescine wedding?

May or September. The rate does not change with the season here, only with the day of the week, so the choice is about weather and availability rather than money. August carries some flexibility on the three-night minimum, which is the one concession the relais makes.
