Conti di San Bonifacio, Gavorrano
The estate sits at Casteani in the hills above Gavorrano, in the Maremma, with the Tyrrhenian coast half an hour west and Grosseto half an hour south.
It is a working wine estate before it is a hotel. The vineyards and olive groves run down the slopes below the main building, and the restaurant that cooks every meal served here is built on what the estate grows and the Maremma supplies.
The estate holds one Michelin Key. Twelve suites sit around the courtyard and along the olive grove, and the whole thing is let to one wedding at a time.
Conti di San Bonifacio Wedding Venue
The estate is small and the celebration moves through it rather than occupying one room.
The Hilltop Garden
The highest point on the estate, looking out across the Maremma. The ceremony goes here and it takes up to 130.
The Poolside Garden
Where the aperitivo happens, as the sun drops behind the hills and the estate wines come out.
The Maremmana Restaurant
The indoor dining room, warm and candlelit, seating 70. This is the wet-weather answer and the setting for the smaller dinners of the weekend.
The Tree Lounge Bar
A bar built beneath the pine trees, with a wooden dance floor beside it. The night ends here, and it is allowed to end at three.
Conti di San Bonifacio Wedding Cost
A Conti di San Bonifacio wedding starts from €150,000, and for optimal results we recommend budgeting €250,000 all-in for 80 to 110 guests.
Sole use, by season
The estate is reserved for one wedding at a time and priced per night:
- November to March: €7,000 a night
- April and October: €8,000 a night
- May: just under €12,000 a night
- July and August: €12,000 a night
- June and September: €14,000 a night
That includes the twelve suites, daily breakfast and housekeeping. Two nights are the minimum on a weekday in low or mid season, and three in high season or across any weekend.
Food and drink
All of it is cooked by the Maremmana Restaurant. There is no outside caterer and no route to one.
The open bar is the part worth reading twice. It runs at €25 a head per hour until one in the morning, and €35 a head per hour for every hour after that. At a hundred guests the two hours between one and three cost €7,000 on their own.
The two-event rule
The estate requires a minimum of two events across the stay. The wedding counts as one, and a welcome dinner the night before or a brunch the morning after has to be the second.
That is not an upsell so much as a shape. It is why the minimum stay exists, and it is why a couple budgeting for a single dinner will find the quote larger than they expected.
The setting
The estate’s own table setting is included: wine barrels, white linen, silver, rectangular tables, Tuscan chairs and white porcelain. Anything beyond it is hired.

The Airport Nobody Gets Right
Pisa is an hour and 43 minutes from the estate. Florence is two hours and 24.
Almost every listing for this part of the Maremma names Florence, because Florence is what people associate with Tuscany, and the result is a guest list driving 40 minutes further than it needs to in each direction. For a hundred guests arriving over two days, that is a real sum in cars and a real amount of goodwill.
Grosseto is 34 minutes away and is where the trains stop. Rome Fiumicino is three hours and three minutes, which for anyone flying long-haul is worth comparing against Florence rather than dismissing.
We put Pisa on the invitation and book the cars from there.
Music, and Three in the Morning
The brochure says it in one line: music and celebrations are permitted until 3:00 AM.
For Tuscany that is unusually late. Most of the Chianti is bound by municipal ordinances that stop outdoor music at ten or midnight, and estates that go past one are rare. Here the party simply continues under the pines until three and nobody has to negotiate it.
What the estate does instead is price the hours. The open bar is €25 a head an hour until one and €35 a head an hour afterwards, so the late part of the night is bought by the head rather than granted by the contract.
That is the honest trade here, and it is a good one. The money is visible and the permission is not in doubt, which is the opposite of the usual Tuscan arrangement where the permission is vague and the money is hidden.
Accommodation at Conti di San Bonifacio
Twelve suites, sleeping 24.
They are arranged in categories rather than wings: two Courtyard Club junior suites, five in the Olive Grove, two Vineyard Suites, the Vineyard Signature and the Vineyard Panoramic with its private terrace, and the Bridal Suite with a four-poster, a working fireplace and a wrap-around terrace.
Every one of them comes with the sole-use rate whether or not it is slept in, along with breakfast and daily housekeeping.
Twenty-four beds against a ceremony for 130 is the arithmetic to plan around. Massa Marittima is fifteen minutes away, Gavorrano is closer, and the coast is half an hour, so there is no shortage of rooms nearby.
There is a shortage of rooms within walking distance, though, and that is the real trade-off at this estate. A hundred guests cannot wander back to bed at two in the morning, so the three-in-the-morning curfew only works if the shuttles are still running at three, and that is a cost and a rota rather than a detail.
Conti di San Bonifacio Location, Tuscany
The estate is at Casteani in the comune of Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto, in the Maremma.
Grosseto is 34 minutes, Siena an hour and 18 and the sea about half an hour west.
Getting guests there
Pisa is an hour and 43 minutes and is the airport to use. Rome Fiumicino is three hours and three, Florence Peretola two hours and 24, and Bologna three hours and eleven.
This is the far side of Tuscany from the Chianti and it feels it. The landscape is emptier, the towns are further apart and the light is different, and for couples who have seen a great many cypress avenues that is precisely the appeal.
Magic Day Insights
The airport is the easiest money anyone saves here.
Send guests to Pisa.
Pisa is 40 minutes closer than Florence and almost nobody says so. Across a guest list of a hundred arriving and leaving, that is more than a full day of collective driving and several thousand euros in transfers. We always put Pisa on the invitation and book the cars from there, and we tell guests why.
Budget the hours past one at the right rate.
Music is allowed until three, which is the reason to choose this estate, and the open bar steps from €25 a head an hour to €35 at one in the morning. We price the full run to three into the first budget rather than treating the last two hours as optional, because nobody has ever decided at one in the morning to send the band home.
Design the second event properly.
The estate requires two events and most couples treat the second as an obligation. We would rather make it the welcome dinner around the wood-fired oven under the pines, because it is the evening guests talk about afterwards and it costs less than the wedding it precedes.
Hold the number near a hundred.
The Hilltop Garden takes 130 and the restaurant seats 70, so anything above a hundred commits the dinner to the outdoors or to a hired marquee in front of the main building. At 80 to 110 the estate works exactly as it was designed to, and the wet-weather plan does not need a structure.

Common Questions
How much does a Conti di San Bonifacio wedding cost?
A Conti di San Bonifacio wedding starts from €150,000, and for optimal results we recommend budgeting €250,000 all-in. Sole use of the estate is priced by season, from €7,000 a night between November and March to €14,000 in June and September, with the twelve suites and breakfast included. Food and drink are all cooked by the estate's restaurant and quoted separately, and an open bar is €25 a head an hour until one in the morning.
How many guests can attend a Conti di San Bonifacio wedding?
Up to 130 for the ceremony in the Hilltop Garden, which is the highest point of the estate. Dinner indoors at the Maremmana Restaurant seats 70, so a larger wedding dines outside and a marquee can be set in front of the main building on request. We would plan this estate at 80 to 110, where the outdoor spaces work without a structure.
Can we marry legally at Conti di San Bonifacio?
The estate hosts a symbolic ceremony in the Hilltop Garden rather than a civil one, so the legal marriage is arranged at a comune nearby. Massa Marittima and Gavorrano are both close, and Grosseto is 34 minutes away for couples who want the paperwork done in a town with an airport connection.
What is the music curfew at Conti di San Bonifacio?
Three in the morning, stated plainly in the estate's own brochure, and that is late by any Tuscan standard. The curfew is matched by how the drinks are priced: an open bar runs at €25 a head an hour until one in the morning and €35 a head an hour for every hour after it, so the last two hours cost more per head than the first four.
How many people can sleep at Conti di San Bonifacio?
Twenty-four, across twelve suites. They run from Courtyard Club junior suites through the Olive Grove and Vineyard categories to the Vineyard Signature and the Bridal Suite, which has a four-poster bed, a working fireplace and a wrap-around terrace. A wedding of 130 therefore sleeps mostly off the estate, in Massa Marittima, Gavorrano or along the coast.
Which airport do guests fly into for Conti di San Bonifacio?
Pisa, an hour and 43 minutes, and this is the one venue in southern Tuscany where Florence is the wrong answer. Florence Peretola is two hours and 24, a full 40 minutes further, and almost every listing sends guests there out of habit. Rome Fiumicino is three hours and three, and Grosseto is 34 minutes for anyone arriving by train or by road.
When is the best time of year for a Conti di San Bonifacio wedding?
May or October. The estate prices June and September highest at €14,000 a night and April and October at €8,000, so the shoulder months are little more than half the price for a Maremma that is green in spring and golden in autumn. July and August are hot this far south and the sea breeze does not reach the hills.
