Masseria Don Luigi wedding

Don Luigi sits in the olive country outside Fasano, a few minutes from the railway station and a quarter of an hour from the sea at Savelletri. It is low and white in the Apulian manner, with bougainvillea against the walls, a lemon garden, and a lagoon-shaped pool cut into the lawn.

What makes it unusual is not the architecture, which is handsome rather than remarkable, but the paperwork. The masseria is an official municipal house, so the comune can register a marriage on the property, and its price list sets out the hours, the rules and the fees more clearly than any other document in this set.

The day has a fixed shape here, and the masseria publishes its own sample timeline: welcome drink at four, ceremony at half past, cocktails at five, dinner at seven, cake at ten.

Plan A, and the reason for the venue: more than 300 seated among the trees, strung with lights, with a dance floor and a stage. The aerial photographs of round tables under the olives are all of this.

Plan B, and a serious one: air-conditioned, seating 240 to 250, with a bioclimatic pergola alongside. It is also where the DJ set moves after the cake so that the music can keep going past the outdoor curfew.

A Masseria Don Luigi wedding starts from €100,000 and lands near €200,000 all-in for 100 to 250 guests.

€5,000 on a weekday or a Sunday, €6,000 on a Friday or a Saturday, charged once for the wedding day itself. It buys sole use: nobody is on the property except the wedding party and the staff. It covers the spaces and their furniture, the lighting including the string lights in the olive grove, power in every usable area, the bar sound system, secured parking with electric charging, the hostesses, and the restroom service.

Charged for every day of the booking rather than once, so a weekend wedding day with all fourteen rooms comes to €10,000 before tax and the weekday equivalent is lower. Extra nights before or after are charged again at the day rate.

Booking extra nights is compulsory if there is a pre-wedding or post-wedding event, and the masseria sets a matching rule: a three-night stay must include one event besides the wedding, and a four-night stay two. A long weekend here is therefore three parties rather than one.

The food and the open bar, which come from the masseria’s two partners and cannot be brought in; the flowers and the table decorations; the music, the photography and the video; and the Italian music licence, which the couple or the planner has to obtain and hand to the reception the day before. A florist who leaves a set-up standing overnight is charged for its removal.

Fourteen rooms sleeping thirty-four: nine doubles, four triples and one quadruple, of which ten are Superior at twenty-six square metres and four Standard at sixteen. All have air conditioning, wifi, a safe and a minibar, and breakfast is included in the rate.

The rooms come with the hire rather than being booked separately, which is what makes the sole use real: there are no other guests checking in on the morning of the wedding. Thirty-four beds against 250 guests means the rest stay in Fasano, Savelletri or Ostuni, all within half an hour, and the masseria is built for coaches.

The masseria is outside Fasano, inland of Savelletri, in the middle of the triangle that holds the trulli, the white towns and the coast.

Savelletri and the sea are 14 minutes, Alberobello 21, Monopoli 17, Polignano a Mare 21 and Ostuni 28. Fasano railway station is a minute from the gate and connects through to Bari Centrale, which means guests can arrive by train rather than by car.

Brindisi airport is 46 minutes and Bari an hour. The masseria’s own material says 30 and 45, which is optimistic by about a quarter in both cases, and worth correcting when transfers are being timed. Having two airports inside the hour widens the flights a guest list can be built around.

This is one of the few venues in the set that states its access plainly: the approach takes fifty-seater and double-decker coaches, and the event areas are on the ground floor with an accessible restroom. For a guest list that sleeps in four towns, that matters more than it sounds.

The municipal house licence is the first reason to look here. It means the civil ceremony happens on the lawn rather than in a town hall at eleven in the morning, which removes the convoy that most Puglian weddings have to build into the day. Very few venues in the region hold it.

The curfew is the second, and it is worth understanding properly.

The two o’clock and midnight limits are the comune’s rules for the whole municipality, not the masseria’s preference, so no amount of negotiating moves them. What does move is the room: the glass gazebo is indoors, so a DJ set there runs to three on any night of the week and can be extended to four. We always design the night around the cake cutting for that reason, because that is the moment the olive grove has to hand the party over.

The third is the mandatory events rule, which changes what a three-night wedding costs. Extra nights cannot be booked simply to keep guests on site; they have to carry an event, and a four-night stay carries two. Handled early that is a welcome dinner and a pool party, which most couples want anyway. Handled late it is a surprise.
