Cap Estel wedding

The house will tell you the Beatles worked on “Michelle” here. Take it or leave it, but the fact that the story is plausible tells you what kind of address this was.

A Russian prince put a dacha on this rock at the end of the nineteenth century. Before him, Frank Harris, the Irish writer who was Oscar Wilde’s friend and later his biographer, had found the spit of land and fallen for it. By 1923 the peninsula belonged to André Embiricos, of one of Greece’s older shipowning families.

It became a hotel in the 1950s and spent the next forty years as one of the coast’s private addresses, from Greta Garbo onward.

What you are buying now is not really the building. Two hectares, sea on three sides, one gate on the Basse Corniche and not a single neighbouring household. On a coast where every other property negotiates with someone over the wall, that is the entire argument.

Twenty-eight rooms and suites. La Table de Cap Estel for the gourmet room, Le Ficus by the pool since 2018, and the wood-panelled lobby bar. A seawater infinity pool cantilevered out over the rock, an indoor pool, a Spa by Sothys with two treatment rooms facing the water, a tennis court, and a pebble beach at the foot of the cliff.

The kitchen belongs to Kévin Garcia, who arrived in 2025 from the Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower. He took that restaurant to two Michelin stars, the first time it had held them, after Joël Robuchon’s Atelier and the Pré Catelan under Frédéric Anton.

Here is how we build the day, and the geography makes most of the decisions.

Guests gather on the lobby bar terrace with the coast running away toward Cap Ferrat. Vows the next evening on the Damier lawn, the sea directly ahead. Cocktails on the Grande Terrasse, dinner in the loggias or on the Grand Salon terrace, and at eleven the whole party moves indoors and stays as late as it likes.

Everything faces the same water. Nobody has to be walked anywhere.

The one thing to fix early is the seated number. The ceiling is 250 guests, and the largest single dining space seats 130, so somewhere between those two figures we stop choosing a room and start building one.

We build most weddings here at 100 to 120, and that is the number we would give you before any other. It seats in the Loggia Sud without a structure, it stands on the Grande Terrasse with room to move, and it fits the indoor salon the dancing has to end in.

There is no second option here and there does not need to be. Backs to the villa, sea behind the couple, and the light at seven doing the work.

Four hundred and forty square metres of terrace off the main building. 240 for a reception, which makes it the only space on the property that takes the full guest list standing.

Cocktails belong here. So does a seated dinner above 130, though that is a build rather than a booking, and it needs to be priced in month one.

Three of them, running along the ground floor and opening onto the terrace. Loggia Sud seats 130 across 174 m², Loggia Est 40, and Loggia Ouest 16.

The Sud is the wedding dinner room for most guest counts. The two small ones are for the rehearsal dinner and the family lunch, and they are more useful than their size suggests because they let you split a group without sending anyone off the peninsula.

This is where the party ends, every time, because the dance floor is only permitted indoors. Plan it as the destination rather than the fallback: it wants lighting and a sound rig from the start, not a band pushed into a corner at five past eleven.

The summer restaurant beside the seawater pool, open since 2018 and good for up to 25. Grilled fish, sharing plates, the water a few steps down.

Take it for the welcome lunch on the day guests arrive. It is too small for anything else and trying to stretch it is a mistake.

A pebble cove at the base of the cliff, reached by steps, and a tennis court on the eastern edge with the sea breaking below it.

Neither is a wedding space. Both are the reason a three-night minimum stops feeling like a minimum.

Twenty-eight rooms and suites, spread through the villa and the buildings around it, and the hire takes all of them with breakfast.

They run from sea-view doubles with balconies over the water to suites with their own kitchens and dining rooms. Marble bathrooms throughout. The ones to hold back for family look east down the coast, so the sun arrives in the window rather than as afternoon glare.

Then the arithmetic, which is the hardest fact on this page.

Twenty-eight rooms sleep 56 people. The property admits up to 250. Even at the 120 we would recommend, more than half of your wedding sleeps somewhere else, on the stretch of coast between Nice and Monaco, in high season.

We block a second property before the date is signed rather than after. Beaulieu and Cap Ferrat are minutes away and they sell out eighteen months ahead, and a shuttle running a five-minute road is a great deal easier than a shuttle running forty.

Èze-Bord-de-Mer sits at the foot of the corniches, halfway between Nice and Monaco on the strip where the Alps come down into the Mediterranean. The village of Èze is on the rock above; the hotel is on the water below.

The gate is on the Basse Corniche and gives nothing away. The drive descends from there.

Nice Côte d’Azur (NCE) is 20km, about 30 minutes by road, and it is the airport essentially every guest will use. It carries direct routes from the United States and the United Kingdom, which is why a Riviera guest list assembles more easily than a Puglian one.

Summer traffic on the Basse Corniche is the variable. We build 45 minutes into the transfer in July and August rather than 30.

The Nice to Monaco shuttle is seven minutes in the air, and Monaco is about 15 minutes from the hotel by road. For guests landing at Nice on the wedding afternoon that combination beats the coast road comfortably.

Èze-sur-Mer has its own station on the Nice to Ventimiglia line, a few minutes from the gate. It is the quiet way to move guests to Monaco for an evening without organising cars.

Beaulieu-sur-Mer is the nearest port, a few minutes west, and Monaco is a short run east. The property has its own beach at the foot of the cliff rather than a jetty, so arrivals by sea come in through a harbour and finish by road.

Start with the threshold, because it decides everything after it.

Seventy guests. Below that number, and with no dance party, you can hold a banquet at Cap Estel without taking the property, paying restaurant privatisation fees instead. Above 70, or if you want dancing at all, the whole peninsula is hired and the cost changes category.

€90,000 a night from the late-April opening to mid-May, and again in October. €120,000 a night from mid-May through June and in September. Three nights minimum, so €300,000 to €400,000 before anything else.

That covers all 28 rooms with breakfast and every space on the property except spa treatments. The rate includes VAT and the employee contribution; city tax per guest per night sits outside it.

€20,000 a day on food and drink, and it does not roll over between days.

At any real guest count you will pass it without trying. Canapés run €10 apiece, the banquet menus €198 and €218 a head, the Ficus sharing menu €130, wine packages €78 to €109, and an hour of open bar €72 without champagne. A hundred and twenty guests through a wedding day clears the daily minimum twice over before anyone orders a second bottle.

The minimum is there to protect a small wedding on a big property. On a large one it is invisible.

Sound, lighting, staging, floral, entertainment, fireworks and any structure. Photography, transfers, design, and the off-site rooms for the half of your guest list the villa cannot sleep.

We recommend budgeting from €650,000 all-in, and a peak-season wedding at 200 or more with full production reaches €1,200,000.

Cap Estel closes for the winter and reopens at the end of April or in May, so the year is short and the good dates inside it are shorter. The 2026 season filled before it started.

October and early May are materially cheaper than June and September, and on this coast October is often the better weather bet than May.

Music, and the thing nobody mentions. Outdoor music stops at 11pm, which is standard for the Alpes-Maritimes. What is not standard is what happens next: there is no indoor curfew at all, because there are no neighbours to complain. The party can run until it stops.

The catch is that the dance floor is only permitted indoors at any guest count. So a 200-guest wedding dines outside and dances in a 142 m² salon. We design the room properly and stage the move during dessert, and we tell couples the number before they fall in love with the terrace.

Fireworks. Genuinely possible here, which is rare on this coast. Sea on three sides, no households in earshot, and a hotel that lists them as an option rather than a problem. Still an outside supplier, still subject to the fire risk on the day.

The kitchen is theirs. No outside caterers, at all. Every setup, every decoration and every band also needs approval in advance. None of that is unusual at this level, but the approval has a real lead time and we submit early rather than close to the date.

Two thirds sleep elsewhere. Twenty-eight rooms against 250 guests is the widest gap of any property we work on the Riviera. It is not a reason to avoid Cap Estel. It is a reason to book the neighbouring hotels the same week you book this one.

July and August. The hotel’s rate bands cover late April to mid-May, then mid-May through June, September and October. High summer is absent from that list. Ask about it directly rather than assuming either way, because the answer changes which year you are planning.

Arrival. One gate, one descending drive, and no room to stack vehicles at the bottom. We run arrivals in waves from a holding point up on the corniche, and we never let 250 guests and a coach meet on that drive.

Cap Estel hires you a peninsula for three nights: 28 rooms with breakfast, every space on the property, and a kitchen that will not let anyone else cook. Design, florals, staging, sound, lighting, entertainment, photography, transfers and the timeline sit with the planner.

What a first-timer misses is that the three headline numbers do not agree with each other. The property admits 250 guests, seats 130 in its largest room, and sleeps 56. Each of those is true, and the gaps between them are where the budget and the timeline actually live: a structure for the dinner, a second hotel for the beds, and an indoor room that has to hold a dance floor it was not built for.

Get those three numbers straight before the deposit and everything after it is design. Get them wrong and you spend a year solving them backwards.
