Masseria Torre Coccaro wedding

Torre Coccaro is the middle one of the three great masserie on this stretch, with Torre Maizza and San Domenico a few minutes either side. It was a fortified farm of the 1500s, built around a watchtower, and it is whitewashed, red-shuttered, low, and covered in bougainvillea.

The estate runs from the olive groves down to the sea, where the Coccaro Beach Club is cut into the rocks: a swimming platform, a jetty, rows of blue and white umbrellas and a restaurant under a striped awning. The olives between are genuinely ancient, several of them a thousand years old and hollow enough to stand inside.

This is the thing to know before anything else, and it is unusual enough to need saying twice.

Every other masseria on this coast sells its whole house for a wedding. Torre Coccaro’s brochure still offers a buyout of all 44 rooms in April, at the start of May and in the last two weeks of October. The masseria’s own answer in April 2026 overtakes that: the buyout is not available in 2027 at all.

What is available is the wedding on its own, or the wedding with part of the rooms, subject to availability, over a minimum stay of three nights. That means other guests are staying in the hotel while you marry, and the estate is not closed to them. For some couples that is no trouble; for anyone picturing the place to themselves, it is the wrong venue this year and the neighbours are not.

The masseria runs a wedding as a progression through four spaces rather than one, which is its real character.

The old farmyard, where the aperitif happens: pettole, pizza and focaccia cooked in the ancient oven, lights strung between the buildings and pizzica dancers playing. It is a village feast rather than a drinks reception and it is the part guests remember.

Where the antipasti are made in front of everybody, at stations under the thousand-year-old trees: a cheesemaker pulling mozzarella, panzerotti fried by the house, grilled octopus and a seafood corner.

In the orchard, and where dinner is served, usually two first courses and a main. Music here plays until midnight.

A white cave underground, the old frantoio, set up with white sofas and a DJ for the rest of the night. There is no music limit at all down here, which is what makes the midnight gazebo curfew easy to live with rather than a problem to solve.

A Masseria Torre Coccaro wedding starts from €100,000 and lands near €200,000 all-in for a party of 100 to 120.

The structure is different from its neighbours. There is no hire fee and no buyout to buy: the wedding is priced per head through the masseria’s own catering, with a minimum of 100 guests, and a civil ceremony on the estate carries a charge of its own. Rooms, when they are available, are booked and paid for separately.

The aperitif in the Aia with the oven and the live stations, the antipasti in the olive grove, the dinner in the gazebo, the dessert buffet and the wedding cake, and the Olive Mill set up for the party. An open bar in the mill is priced separately, either by the drink or by the hour.

The flowers and the design; the photography; the music, including the pizzica dancers who give the aperitif its character; the Italian music licence; the rooms; and the transfers. Because there is no buyout, the hotel block is several properties rather than one, which adds coordination rather than cost.

The hotel has 44 rooms, from Superior Rooms in the main house to suites with their own gardens and a villa with a private pool among the olives. They are white and vaulted, shuttered in red, in the Apulian manner rather than the contemporary one.

In 2027 a wedding can take only part of them, over a minimum of three nights and subject to availability, so the room list is settled late and the rest of the guests stay nearby. Savelletri, Fasano and Ostuni all have beds within twenty minutes, and the coast road makes the coaching straightforward.

The masseria is on the Coccaro road between Savelletri and Torre Canne, with its own beach club on the rocks and the Valle d’Itria behind it.

Ostuni is 28 minutes, Alberobello 31, Polignano a Mare 23 and Monopoli 18. Guests staying three nights have the whole of the trulli country and the white towns within half an hour.

Brindisi is 47 minutes and Bari just over the hour, so both airports are in range and the flight options are wide. Lecce is an hour and ten and is a day out rather than a base.

The narrow guest band is the first filter and it catches people late if nobody says it early. A hundred is the floor and a hundred and twenty the ceiling, which means this venue suits exactly one size of wedding. We always check the guest list against that band before we show anyone the photographs, because falling twenty short changes the cost per head rather than the menu.

The second thing is what the Olive Mill is worth.

Most Puglian venues sell you a midnight curfew and leave you negotiating for an extra hour. Here the dinner ends at midnight in the gazebo and the party simply moves underground into a stone cave where nothing can be heard outside, and the night runs as long as the guests do. In practice that is a better answer than a two o’clock limit, because two o’clock still ends.

The third is the room problem, which is a planning problem rather than a disappointment. Without a buyout the guest list sleeps in four or five properties, so the transport plan, the welcome bags and the morning-after breakfast all become several small operations instead of one. It is entirely workable and it is not free.
