Villa Erba, Cernobbio
The villa stands on the water at Cernobbio, just north of Como, in a park of a hundred thousand square metres with cedars and manicured hedges running to the lake.
It was built in the nineteenth century by the Erba family, and the square outside is named for Luchino Visconti, who spent his childhood summers in the house.
Behind it, inside the same park, stands a modern exhibition and conference centre in glass and iron, built to echo the lake’s greenhouses. That building is why the property can hold numbers no villa on this lake can approach.
Villa Erba Wedding Venue
The wedding uses the villa’s ground floor, its terraces and as much of the park as the weather allows.
The five rooms
Five separate rooms open into each other around an entrance hall, a foyer and an atrium. Together they seat 450 restaurant style. The largest single room holds 90.
The atrium
High and bright, and the natural place for dancing or for a performance, with the rooms opening off it.
The terraces
Over the lake and the park, offered with the hire depending on the season and the forecast.
The park
A hundred thousand square metres of it, with the lake frontage, and a helipad inside the grounds.
The pavilion
The conference centre behind the villa, in glass and iron, which seats 1,500 and is where a wedding goes when the guest list stops being a wedding guest list and starts being a crowd.
Villa Erba Wedding Cost
A Villa Erba wedding starts from €250,000, and for optimal results we recommend budgeting €350,000 all-in for 150 to 300 guests.
The space
From five in the afternoon until one in the morning, plus 22% VAT:
- Up to 150 guests: €26,000
- 151 to 250 guests: €28,000
- 251 and above: €30,000
Extra hours until three in the morning are agreed and quoted in advance, and come to just under €2,000 each once VAT is on them.
What the fee carries
Cleaning, general lighting, a staffed toilet service through the event, technical assistance from the villa’s own team, and security on the main gate. Those are real lines that other venues bill separately, and at this scale they are not small.
The catering
From €220 plus 10% VAT per person, on a minimum of a hundred guests guaranteed. It comes from the house.
What sits outside it
Flowers and furniture, entertainment, lighting design and fireworks, and the marquee, all of which also come from the house. Villa Erba supplies every service a wedding needs and does not accept outside suppliers for any of them.
That is the single most important thing to understand about budgeting here, and it cuts both ways. Nothing can be shopped around, so there is no negotiating a florist against another florist. In exchange the whole production arrives as one quote from one party who owns the building, and on a 300-guest wedding that is worth more than the saving would have been.

Dinner Outside Means a Marquee
If dinner is to be in the park rather than in the rooms, a marquee is mandatory, and the sheet gives the reason as sanitary rather than meteorological. There is no version where tables simply go on the grass.
The build is a minimum of two days with one more to strike, which means the property is held for four days around a one-night wedding and the structure is a five-figure line in the budget.
It is worth doing at 250 guests and above, because the alternative is five rooms with walls between them. Below about 150 the rooms are the better answer and the money goes somewhere else.
Accommodation
There is none.
Villa Erba is an event venue with no bedrooms, which is unusual on a list where most of the great houses sleep at least a dozen people. It is also the trade this venue asks you to make: the capacity that no other house on the lake can offer comes without a single bed behind it, so the guest list cannot sleep where it dances.
What it has instead is a network. Fourteen partner hotels at four and five stars hold fixed rates through Villa Erba’s own events network, and a sixteen-hotel association covers the wider lake, so a guest list of three hundred is placed across Cernobbio and Como rather than squeezed into one property.
The private pier matters here more than anywhere. Guests staying along the shore arrive by water rather than by road, which on a Saturday evening in Cernobbio is the difference between a ten-minute journey and a long one.
Villa Erba Location, Lake Como
The villa is at Largo Luchino Visconti in Cernobbio, on the western shore at the southern end of the lake, two minutes from the centre of the village.
Como is eleven minutes away.
Getting guests there
Milan Malpensa is 54 minutes by road, Linate an hour and one and Bergamo an hour and 18. Lugano across the Swiss border is 36 minutes.
Parking inside the property is for ten cars only, with around 300 further spaces nearby quoted separately, so a large guest list arrives by coach, by boat or by both.
Magic Day Insights
This is the venue for the wedding that is too big for Lake Como.
Three hundred guests is a number that quietly rules out almost every house on this lake, and couples with large families spend months discovering that one villa at a time. Villa Erba takes 450 in the villa and 1,500 in the pavilion behind it, and it is the only answer of its kind on this shore. We always bring it into the conversation early when the guest list is over two hundred, because the search is otherwise a long one.
The second thing is the shape of the rooms, which the capacity figure hides. Four hundred and fifty seated is five connecting rooms and an atrium, not a ballroom, and the largest single room holds 90. A couple who wants everyone looking at the same top table at the same moment needs the marquee in the park, and the marquee needs two days of build, one to strike and a five -figure line of its own.
The third is that nothing is brought in. Catering, flowers, furniture, lighting, fireworks and the structure all come from Villa Erba, which means there is no shopping around and no second quote. On a wedding of this size we find that an advantage rather than a constraint, because the usual failure mode at 300 guests is eight suppliers with eight timelines, and here there is one.
Then there is three in the morning. The indoor hour is the latest on this lake by a margin, and for a guest list that has flown in from several countries to dance, that is the whole point of choosing Cernobbio over a villa with a curfew at half past eleven.

Magic Day plans weddings at Villa Erba from the first conversation to the final farewell. That means the band the guest count falls into, the rooms against the marquee, the two days of build held in the calendar, the catering minimum modelled at the real number, the hotels blocked across Cernobbio and Como, the boats from the pier, and the hours past one agreed before signature.

Common Questions
How much does a Villa Erba wedding cost?
A Villa Erba wedding starts from €250,000, and for optimal results we recommend budgeting €350,000 all-in. The space is €26,000 plus 22% VAT up to 150 guests, €28,000 to 250 and €30,000 above, for the hours from five in the afternoon to one in the morning. Catering adds at least €220 plus 10% VAT a head on a hundred-guest minimum, and because every other service comes from the house too, the quote arrives as one number rather than as six.
How many guests can attend a Villa Erba wedding?
Four hundred and fifty seated, which is more than twice what any other villa on this lake will take. The shape matters as much as the number: the ground floor is five connecting rooms and an atrium, and the largest single room holds 90 guests, so a large dinner is laid across several rooms rather than in one. We would plan a Villa Erba wedding at 150 to 300.
Can we marry legally at Villa Erba?
A symbolic ceremony is what happens here, on the terraces over the lake or in the park. Italy allows a civil ceremony only where the commune has authorised one, so couples complete the legal marriage at home or at a Lake Como town hall and keep the day for the ceremony they want.
What is the music curfew at Villa Erba?
Eleven at night outdoors and three in the morning indoors, which makes the indoor curfew the latest of any venue we work with on Lake Como. The contracted hours run to one in the morning and the two beyond that are quoted in advance, at just under €2,000 each with VAT. For a large wedding that wants a real party, this is the venue on the lake that allows one.
Where do guests sleep for a Villa Erba wedding?
Not at the venue, which has no bedrooms at all. Villa Erba runs a network of fourteen partner hotels across the lake at fixed rates, and a sixteen-hotel association covers the rest, so a guest list of three hundred is housed in Cernobbio and Como rather than on site. The private pier means they can arrive by water.
Which airport do guests fly into for Villa Erba?
Milan Malpensa, 54 minutes by road, and it is the shortest airport run of the Lake Como venues on the western shore. Linate is an hour and one and Bergamo an hour and 18, Lugano is 36 minutes, and Como itself is eleven. There is also a helipad inside the park.
When is the best time of year for a Villa Erba wedding?
June or September. The 2027 calendar opens in July 2026 and the villa is in demand for the trade season as well as for weddings, so the months to aim for are the ones everyone else wants, which makes early booking worth more here than at most places.
